Assessing long-term effects of MDMA (Ecstasy).

چکیده
are that renal disease also activates the renin-angiotensin system, sympathetic drive is high, and the glomeruli overgrow and fibrose, resembling the terminally failing heart. Thus the next round of renal trials may need, besides an ACE inhibitor or ARB and very large numbers, new modifications to lessen mortality. Speculations could include spironolactone to further decrease proteinuria and to lessen fibrosis, with -blockers to dampen excess sympathetic stimulation. But instead of mounting giant and expensive trials to achieve the elusive reduction in mortality, the practical ideal in diabetic nephropathy could become early intervention, even before there is overt hypertension or proteinuria.

The entactogen +/-3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA or ecstasy) is a popular recreational drug among college, high school, and, occasionally, middle school students. Preclinical research examining the acute and long-term effects of MDMA has predominately been conducted in reproductively mature subjects but there has been increasing interest in adolescent and in utero exposure. This review...
متن کاملNeurotoxicity of drugs of abuse - the case of methylenedioxy amphetamines (MDMA, ecstasy ), and amphetamines
Ecstasy (MDMA, 3,4-methylendioxymethamphetamine) and the stimulants methamphetamine (METH, speed) and amphetamine are popular drugs among young people, particularly in the dance scene. When given in high doses both MDMA and the stimulant amphetamines are clearly neurotoxic in laboratory animals. MDMA causes selective and persistent lesions of central serotonergic nerve terminals, whereas amphet...

BACKGROUND 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA or ecstasy) is a popular recreational drug that has been shown to damage brain serotonin neurons in high doses. However, effects of moderate MDMA use on serotonin neurons have not been studied, and sex differences and the long-term effects of MDMA use on serotonin neurons have not been identified. We investigated the effects of moderate and hea...

3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, ecstasy) is a popular drug of abuse. MDMA is pharmacologically classified as an entactogen because of its affinities to classical hallucinogens and stimulants. Oral ingestion of a single dose of the drug is associated with euphoria, elevated self-confidence, and heightened sensory awareness in humans. Evidence for neurotoxicity in the human serotonin (5-...
